Off the Chart

I keep seeing all the other 31 day bloggers and I am reading some, commenting some, liking some, and some saving for a later read. All the while I haven't even written on my own!!! YIKES!! Glad I am not a teacher right... Well, I have been deciding on what I should even try to post about. Dollar short pretty much sums up the jist (sp) of my house lately.  My family seems to be going their own directions and everyone will catch up with each other at different intervals. I often feel completely lost. No communication exists with us anymore... I can't stay caught up with my own home much less ask around the other three households about their lives. I have been trying to catch my grandsons ball games when I can. Last nights game they won, 32-6!! GO COWBOYS!!! I have no clue about my granddaughter. The three daughters come and go all around town and we hardly see each other. My mom seems to be MIA at times. I called her today that helped. My MIL is MIA in a nursing home now and her son, my husband is about to be MIA as well. Mostly it is just me and the two "stranded" or "trapped" dogs. Hope they really don't feel that way.  Wow did I just spill my guts!! Ok I get it TMI right? Well, thanks for the vent!! Better reads HERE I bet!

Sweet & Simple

Ever wondered around the kitchen at lunch time trying to figure out what to fix for either yourself or your family? I sure did. There was some left over english peas, mashed potatoes, and a hamburger. Well, well decisions, decisions, right? No way!! Ewwww was my first thought. Then it quickly turned into beggars can be choosey right?? NOT NOT NOT!!! So off to the cabinet I went!! Yep you guessed it. Blast from the past jumped into my hands. A nice personal sized can of Cambell's Tomato Soup... I know yuck right? Well, top that warm soup off with a beautiful grilled cheese sandwich. And then you have the best cafe or diner food around. It was delicious. Maybe it was truly because I had to go to the dentist this am for the dreaded 6 month cleaning. Yeah sore teeth!! So the warm tomato soup and gooey cheese was just perfect for lunch. Oh did I mention it was just me for the wonderful meal? So it didn't matter to others. I only had to please myself!! This is why it was just Simple & Sweet.

Dollar Short

Money Train? Wonder what that means? Well, to me it means that I have been waiting on it, but have come rot realize that it isn't coming my way. I am unemployed and seeking employment. But have learned how to run a house with one paycheck. It isn't a big paycheck either. Learning how to cut corners and somewhat do without isn't a bad thing. I have looked at it like a learning curve. Potatoes and rice have become a big part of the diet in my home. You learn what you "need" and "want" quickly. You learn to cut off lights, tv, air conditioner, and any other thing that plugs in and uses energy. I have learned to make lists of things. This helps to decide the needs and wants much more clearly. Sorry to ramble but this is something that everyone should learn to do. I have stock pilled foods in our freezer and dry goods. Now it is time to match the two together. Take last nights dinner for instance. Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich was delicious. Haven't had that in years, but it was filling and very satisfying. Meal preparing is a good thing. I wanted to do a big freezer meal for the crock pot. But haven't got the money for it yet. And we need to use what we have. This somehow brings me to hoarding. Are we hoarders? Maybe some of us are and some not. We would all be a little better off if we did make those meal lists. I can understand the BOGO deals at stores. But I have a hard time understanding why one needs or feels compelled to purchase 80 boxes of cereal. The Extreme Coupon people drive me crazy!! Thank goodness that Boo Boo clan is no longer on tv!! People don't realize that those items will go bad. I remember getting a good deal on the BOGO oatmeals and repurchased several of them. Well, after about 8 months I finally got to using the last couple of boxes. I opened up a couple of packs of oatmeal for breakfast and just before the hot water went in. I noticed that something in my bowl was moving!! It was like meal worms in my bowl. Yep you guessed it. BAD!! So stockpiling some foods are not necessarily good. Keep that in mind. Just try to consume the items you need within in a month unless you are dehydrating foods or vacuum sealing foods. Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Baking Queen (sorta)

Ok I guess the bread goo yesterday got me in the mood to try the bread items again. I wanted to make turkey burgers for supper tonight. Well that would consist of getting in the car and going to I guess ALDI (2 blocks away) and having to purchase 1 pk of buns. Then to end up trashing 4 of the buns or freezing for later. I remembered seeing on one of my favorite vlogggers something about bread making. Well I searched Noreen's Kitchen and found just what I needed. The hamburger bun recipe in all its glory. I jumped right in as soon as I found that pk of dry yeast!! Pictures below. I was able to alter the variation of ending results with 4 hamburger buns, and 16 dinner rolls. How awesome is that!! I did get a little impatient on waiting for the bread to rise up fully. But first timer here and I am doing my best. I will wait next time. So it looks like yummy buns for the burgers tonight.

Baking Time

It was time to make a couple of batches of homemade biscuits again. I make like 4 at a time. Then I freeze them so all we have to do is cook what we want at a time. Like those frozen ones in the store, except I make my own. I try to save a little where ever I can. During the biscuit process I noticed on the bag a recipe for chicken and dumplings. I though hey I can do that!! So that is what I did. I removed 2 frozen chicken breasts to thaw and I started on the dough for the dumplings. Basically it is the same as biscuits. I made a large pot to. It was delicious!!

2014 Garden Update

Yep you guessed it. I am about to be a slacker here on this blogging. I took photos and thought about what I wanted to post about, but I always seem to fail to post. Good thing I am not "having" to do this. Weird how we make up lists of things and try to stay on track. But for some reason we seem to swerve off path. LOLOLOLOL. Which is exactly what I have done here. I took pictures of my garden progress and yet I have made the blog start out with something totally different. Guess thats what blogging is all about.
Well, here is a couple of pictures of my turnip greens and my kale. And looks like at the edge of the garden I have a couple of tomato plants eagerly trying to break out for a second growing. I plan to pull these guys up and bring them in the house for a interior growth. Maybe they will stay stable till spring. Thanks for checking out my garden progress, I am really looking forward to cooking up kale, turnip greens. I have also planted swiss chard in cement pots on the porch. They are doing well also. I need to get a picture of them to.

Please remember to keep up with other great bloggers HERE.
Thanks

Goodwill Goodies

My husband and daughter will be making a long trip to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip in November. That day is approaching very fast!! So on their things to take and leave for the people they are visiting are undergarments, shoes (sandals), and hats of any kind. When those items are gathered up they are put into suitcases for the travel. Then the whole suitcase of goodies as well as the suitcase are left for the people. The old folks home that they will be visiting don't have much. So when this team does show they are so appreciative for any and everything they get. The suitcase becomes that persons dresser. Basically all of their belongings are in it. And thats all they have. It's very sad to realize that everything that you own fits in a suitcase. But it does happen and it is real. So we went to a Goodwill store in another town that is a little bigger than our own store. And we hit the mother load of suitcases. The one we got isn't in the picture, but you will get the message. Actually it is the big bag that matches the two red ones in the picture. You know how they sell the 3 pc sets. The middle size one still has the new store tag on it! We got a maybe used once Pierre Cardin (sp) rolling red suitcase for like $20. It's stunning! I am sure it will bring a wonderful smile and pleasure to someone. Thanks for reading.

DEAR DIARY

Ever had those types of days when you just did so much you barely can remember the day? This was that was my day totally. The day started out with a great breakfast, grits, eggs, bacon. Then it moved to hubby having to go to town for a few things. He gets home calls the fire chief and got permission to burn some bad wood that has gone bad and won't make it to the fireplace this winter.  We burned a lot of old logs. I had to go to town myself today to. Came home and the roast I had cooking in the crock pot was wonderful smelling in the house. Helped hubby some more in the yard burning. We stopped off early this evening to go and meet up with another couple from church. We had dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Had some great conversation and awesome food.

I wished I could really write well like other bloggers. All I can actually do is tell you about my day.
Thanks for reading.

LET'S GO COWBOYS!!

Tonight hubby and I got to go to our grandsons football game. It was great!! Conner is 10 and he is the biggest on the team!! His mom said when they drove up to the ball field he was a little apprehensive about getting out of the car. The ball field is our local high school field. We have 3 high schools in our town. Mainly because the county is so spread out with people. At this field I got to watch 2 of my daughters walk for graduation and my now son in law 's graduation. Basically in 2007 was really the last time I was here. So I never thought I would get to see my grandson play county football! He is as tall as me, you will see below. They played a good game to 6 to 6. The coaches still gave them a chewing after the game. Either way I believe they won!! Conner is a sweet fellow and is quiet. He is a blocker on the team. They said he can't go after the ball, his job is to black and tackle other guys. He never tackles them. He is so timid. I hope he grows out of it some. He is young and this is a true learning experience. I am proud of him and home to see him in pro one day!
It was a great way to spend 1 1/2 hrs tonight.

Thanks for letting me share.

Yard Work

When I mention yard work I was never thinking that it would be to bad right? WRONG! Well my husband said to our pastor once if you ever need help cutting the gras just let me know. I have a mower and a trailer. We can come and do what ever we can to help. Well our pastor asked us Sunday if we could help out.. I like the riding mower personally. Not to bad, high speeds, sun in my face, ear buds belting out great 80's music!! What could be better right. Well about 2 hrs later we finally got finished. And here is why. See below.

Yeah our church property is pretty huge!!

Well after we get home. Hubby said ya know I am on vacation this week. I should go ahead and get our yard done before I put the mower up. Well yeah you guessed right. I got to cut again.. He weeded the yard with the weed eater. Below is me on the mower in our front yard!!

As I thought we were finishing up for the day. Nope right after lunch he went outside and I later followed after cleaning up lunch. And I caught the spouse cutting down our way over grown holly bushes. Well that task was on my honey do list. I had no idea it would be so soon. So below is a picture of my daughter in the yard and it was Mother's Day. So this will give ya a look at how big they were. Then the other two is today. Well, it is 10:15pm here in Georgia and I am about to sign out and take some tylenol and go to bed. Thanks for looking.

Did I mention YARD WORK??

Banana Bread

Banana Bread. What do you think of when you hear those words? A sweet desert, actual bread, muffin, wonderful smell. Well, you mention banana bread in my home and i honestly believe you hear angels playing harps in the back ground and I know my hubby almost takes flight on wings on his feet. We had 3 bananas on the counter and he random mentions that all you need is some pecans and I can have banana bread.... Wow what a hint right? Well, this was around Thursday when he said this. I I actually made him wait a couple of more days cause we had left over strawberry cobbler in the fridge. I knew it would never get eaten if the bread was made. So after church I started gathering up the supplies for the bread. When low and behold he walks in the kitchen. Are you making my bread he asks? I signed and said yes I guess so cause if I didn't you would probably starve. So he reluctantly waited while the house filled with the awesome smell of baking bananas. The oven timer goes off and its like a race to the kitchen. He stares as I remove it from the oven, you know that glazed over look. After they are place on the cooling race, he asks. "Can we cut it now?" Still smoking some I put it on a plate and handed over the knife. I did get a small slice. He then told me that the little one was mine but the big one was his...

Found a Wabbit!!

This post is super short. My granddaughter came to stay the night Friday and all day Saturday. So yeah we were a little busy. We did pick a left over carrot for her. She said she loved it. To our surprise she did eat the whole thing. Probably because it was a fresh one!!

Thanks for following. Don't forget the other talent out there. HERE
